Housing Works presents New York City’s most popular interior design benefit event at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Design on a Dime features more than 50 of the world’s top interior designers, who create unforgettable room vignettes with new merchandise, which is donated and then sold for 50 to 70 percent off retail pricing. Of the 50 top interior designers, Nickelodeon is asked to participate in designing a space. It’s always loads of fun, and the talent and brilliance never ceases to amaze.
Our first year on the project was sensational! We had the desire and inspiration to create a practical, yet under-the-sea space themed after SpongeBob–using pieces that people would want to have in their home. With whimsical and classical furnishing that incorporated aquamarine concepts, we brought in a 120-glass-bubbles chandelier and bubble coffee table; installed custom pine hardwood floors stained yellow and decaled to mirror a pattern design featured in the television series; placed ceramic pineapples; and built a 9’x5’ custom SpongeBob Graphic on Plexiglas for a floating effect.
